Spring Skills

The Spring Break Clinics focus on developing players’ individual skills and techniques and honing their game awareness. We help players improve their skating, stick handling, and decision making skills, then assist them as they incorporate these skills into game situations. Areas of focus include:
Skating and puck handling skills
Skating is the most important part of the game; it is the foundation for everything players do. We help students improve their skating stride, agility, edge control, and backwards skating. We also teach the wrist roll, hand extension, and flexibility skills students need to control the puck, first through focused instruction and then through repeated drills that enhance understanding and mastery. Finally, we help students develop their techniques while incorporating movement and speed.
Game awarenessHockey is both a physical and a mental game. Players must not only develop skills like skating, shooting, and stick handling—they must also learn to make swift, effective decisions with and without the puck. Through the use of small area games, we help students improve their decision-making skills and strengthen their game awareness.
